Stay Informed and in Prayer for the People of Sudan

As voting continues in South Sudan's week-long independence referendum, which started yesterday, here are a few key links to keep you updated:

  • Sudan Vote Monitor: Indie civil-society website with up-to-the-minute reports (verified and otherwise) from the ground about how voting is going. (The referendum *will* be texted!) Also, a journalism news feed on the right side of the page.
  • IRIN Sudan news feed: Humanitarian news, made available on a U.N. website.
  • The anti-genocide Enough Project's blog brings together on-the-ground reports and advocacy-enabling analysis.
  • Satellite Sentinel: First satellite images coming soon! As this site is meant to be a deterrent to village-burning and other human rights violations big enough to be seen by satellite, the less eventful this page is, the better it's working.

And, for background reading, catch up on how faith-based local peacemaking within the South enabled the South to unify and negotiate this referendum, as part of the 2005 north-south peace agreement. Read the story in this Sojourners interview with key player Awut Deng Acuil (who is now heating things up with a fight against corruption in her role as Minister for Public Services in South Sudan's government).

Stay tuned -- but, most of all, stay in prayer for the people of Sudan!
