Support for the Occupy movement is quickly growing in the artistic community. Many artists are writing songs or comics about the action, some are visiting the gatherings in their cities, and still others are finding their footing (and their voices) by simply by signing their name to the cause and showing solidarity alongside the protesters.

This interest isn’t a new phenomenon, but it is virtual evidence of the worldwide strength in numbers.

On Tuesday, the latest of these online Occupy groups — OccupyMusicians.com  — issued a press release their declaring solidarity with the 99 percent as a community of musicians, stretching across a wide scope of genres and fan bases. Daily, collective support of the movement is growing.

It will be interesting to see if these activist-artists turn this into an opportunity to draw broader attention to the movement (concerts outside the 2008 Democratic National Convention), or if they stick to their impromptu patterns and simply show up at the movement with a guitar.
