The 30,000 Campaign: Taking action to overcome poverty
Every day 30,000 children die due to preventable illness and malnutrition. But despite such overwhelming statistics, there is reason for hope. From September 14-16, world leaders will be meeting in New York at a World Summit to discuss how to overcome poverty through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs, learn more), a plan signed by more than 190 countries.
Take action to make overcoming poverty a reality! Here's how:
And the children shall lead them. We are calling on the children of the United States and the world to write President Bush handwritten letters about why they care about the lives of children like them and what they believe should be done. We've put together an easy toolkit for teachers, parents, and children to write letters. Click here to download the toolkit.
Organize on your campus! We are calling on college, university, and seminary students to organize their campuses to overcome global poverty. Organizing opportunities include conducting worship services or teach-ins the week of Sept. 14-16, and inviting student groups to fast, pray, and sign the 30,000 campaign pledge. For more information, assistance, or questions, contact campus@sojo.net.
Educate your congregation! We've put together worship resources that you can use to educate your congregation during regular services about the World Summit and how God calls us to work to overcome poverty. You can also post the details of your services on our Web site to let others see what you're up to.
