Our Ability to Trust Blindly

I think our ability to trust blindly has been forever hampered. When the youth I've worked with have difficulty locating "heroes," I encourage them to think of those who they admire, despite faults that come with human packaging. The heroes show up in the neighborhood, in Dad, Grandma, best friend. Heroes, all of them. Yet these heroes' place is not on a stone pedestal, but in the heart.

Kelly Green, 22, now a Sojourners intern, was a youth minister in inner-city San Antonio, Texas. Her influences include the movie Romero, the musical Les Miserables, and the poetry of Conrad Aiken and E.A. Robinson.
