VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • The Carpenter's Boat Shop, an ecumenical community and school, offers apprenticeships in wooden boatbuilding and simple, Christian community.   • Casa de los Amigos, a Quaker guest house and social service center in Mexico City, offers one- to two-week service/learning seminars in June, July, and August focused on social concerns in Mexico. We also house and place Spanish-speaking volunteers for six months or more with social service organizations in the city.   • The Christian Appalachian Project, a non-profit organization in Eastern Kentucky, needs summer camp counselors to staff general, special needs, and specialty camps. We seek high-energy men and women ages 18 or older for June, July, and August. A minimum commitment of two months is preferred, but commitments of three to seven weeks can be arranged.   • Global Exchange, a non-profit education, research, and social justice organization, seeks volunteers for its international peace center in Chiapas, Mexico, to work at civilian peace camps organized by a local Mexican human rights organization and to provide accompaniment to individuals or communities whose safety is threatened.
