Regarding Bill McKibben’s piece decrying the reluctance of church pastors and leaders to speak out for the environment (“Big Brain. Big Heart?” August 2012), reminding us that we have been appointed the keepers and dressers of same—could it be that most of these leaders are awaiting the so-called “rapture”? From this view, there is no point in protecting the environment, since Christians will be gone and what happens to the rest doesn’t matter.
