Watershed Discipleship

Letter to the Editors

Ched Myers’ excellent article (“A Watershed Moment,” May 2014) is thought-provoking. His call for Christian discipleship in the face of ecological decline calls to mind the thought of liberation theologian Leonardo Boff, and other eco-theologians as well, who view our earthen mission in light of the Holy Trinity as “life, love, and communion.”

In the face of a rampant decrease in ecological resources, increased risk of species extinction, and all-too frequent natural disasters, is it too much to ask all of creation to return to the source? When we reflect upon our creaturely dependence upon God for our gifts and resources, we can clearly see that our actions matter. In fact, all things matter, and we need to act accordingly for the next generations to live in abundance.
