According to Jim Wallis, the founder of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab warned the recent gathering that we shouldn't think of getting back to business as usual. In Davos, Switzerland, Schwab said, ''We're committed to re-thinking our values, redesigning systems, and rebuilding institutions. If we don't, the financial crisis can become a social one.''
Wallis argues that liberals have made a tactical error by not using the tremendous moral authority provided in the Holy Bible to sustain their arguments in favor of progressive legislation and economic and social justice.
James Wallis [sic] of Sojourners recently lamented that Islamophobia is on the rise in our country (and, I would add, most likely in other Western nations). Almost 35 years ago, I worked with an imam who was having difficulty getting zoning for a mosque in his small New Jersey town. He probably would have even more problems today. Our fear of "the other" leads us to do exactly what Paul urges us not to do: we pass judgment based on hearsay and what the fear-mongers have told us.
