Rev. Jim Wallis is in Davos, Switzerland this week providing leadership to the ethics and values pillar, one of six pillars, at the World Economic Forum. According to recent survey findings released by the World Economic Forum and Georgetown University, two-thirds of the 130,000 respondents, from ten countries, including the United States, believe that the current economic crisis is also a crisis of ethics and values. In response, the World Economic Forum has placed corporate ethics and personal values as one of the six core pillars of this week’s conference.

Sojourners, this week, launched “Finding Our Way in the New Economy”. This nationwide campaign, to educate the public about the need for a moral recovery as well as a financial recovery, provides resources, tools and reflections for understanding the impact on families, communities and society when a market-based economy is greed-driven instead of morally based. The resources, tools and reflections will focus on the following issues:

Sojourners magazine, a monthly publication that addresses issues of faith, politics, and culture from a biblical perspective, received two prestigious 2009 Silver Eddie Awards from industry-leader FOLIO: magazine. The Eddie Awards recognize excellence in magazine editorial and design and are presented by FOLIO, the leading publication for magazine professionals. Sojourners magazine won silver in the Consumer, Religious/Spiritual category for a full issue and silver in the “single article” for the same category. These highly esteemed awards come on the heels of earning 25 honors from the Associated Church Press and the Evangelical Press Association this past spring.

The decision by President Obama to send additional troops to Afghanistan saddens me. I believe it is a mistake, it is the wrong direction for U.S. foreign policy, and it is disappointing to many of us in the faith community and our friends who spearhead the on-the-ground development efforts in Afghanistan and around the world.

Reverend Jim Wallis, President and CEO of Sojourners, the largest network of progressive Christians in the nation, today released a letter to President Obama calling for a “whole new approach in Afghanistan.” Joined by a growing list of currently more than 20 faith and moral leaders across the nation, the letter calls on the President to consider a “different strategy that we would name: the humanitarian and development surge.”
