Ten Songs for Super Tuesday

Today is Super Tuesday, the action-packed day for GOP presidential hopefuls as 10 states undergo primary elections. To bring us further into the spirit of Super Tuesday, the blog team at Sojourners has compiled 10 songs for a “Super Tuesday Mixtape.” (In addition to our favorite scene from Little Miss Sunshine: Abigail Breslin shaking it to "Superfreak.")

Get lost in the prophecy of Cat Stevens in “Tuesday's Dead,” as he sings: “Now every second on the nose, the humdrum of the city grows. / Reaching out beyond the throes of our time. / We must try to shake it down. Do our best to break the ground. / Try to turn the world around one more time.”

Tap your toes along to James Brown as you anticipate a world flowing with afro-pop and polyester jumpsuits, as he delivers the positive vibes in the super jam, “Super Bad,” singing: “I got the somethin' that makes me wanna shout / I got that thing, tell me what it's all about / I got soul, ha, and I'm super bad, heh!”

And tune the hype down a little as you listen to Iron & Wine's soft cover of The Flaming Lips’ bittersweet track “Waiting For Superman,” as Sam Beam quietly sings: “He hasn't dropped them, forgot them, or anything / It's just too heavy for Superman to lift.”

Take a listen to the 10 tracks below and have a super Tuesday!
