Resources

As people of faith and advocates, we bear the responsibility to stay informed about the situation affecting our immigrant brothers and sisters. The following Web sites and organizations are good resources for credible and current information. Visit them online to learn more about immigration, the latest legislative updates, and what you can do to make a difference.

Strangers in the Land Web Extras
Additional resources are available for the immigration devotional guide by the editors of Sojourners.

U.S. Immigration: A Historical Perspective
CCIR now offers a downloadable PowerPoint presentation demonstrating America's historical relationship with the immigrant. From 1882 until the present, this PowerPoint gives a brief overview of the legislation and historical context surrounding the 200 year old immigration debate.

Welcoming the Stranger: An Organizer's Toolkit
This toolkit provides resources, from a biblical overview of immigration to a guide on how to write a press advisory. It is designed to help people of faith educate their communities, advocate with policymakers, and get the word out through the press about a compassionate stance on immigration reform.

Sermon Illustration Packet on Immigration

This resource is designed to equip and inspire pastors with preaching material on the Christian teaching of hospitality and the biblical call to “welcome the stranger.” In addition to two full sermons, the packet features a series of sermon illustrations, biblical stories of migration, and stories of undocumented immigrants living in our country today, to be used either in sermons focused on the call to love our neighbor, or about something else all together.

Welcoming the Stranger: Christians and Immigration Discussion Guide
This series is designed to spark discussion and thought about how to live out God’s call for justice in our world. This guide includes four sessions, each with Sojourners articles, questions for discussion, and ideas for further study. The resources here are a starting point for a further journey—where will the Spirit lead your group?
