Nearly 100,000 people from around the world - including these activists from India - descended on Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, in January for the World Social Forum - one of the largest gatherings of social activists and nongovernmental organizations. The social forum focuses on issues affecting the world's poor and powerless. Approximately 2,660 organizations from 132 countries attended the 2004 forum.
