Groups Claim Amoco Fuels Sudan War

Christian groups in the United States and Sudan have called for the boycott of BP-Amoco in protest of its partnership with Chinese oil companies whose investments in Sudanese pipelines help fund the government's war against the predominantly Christian and animist South. Observers fear that new oil revenues may finance a final crushing offensive by the Islamic-fundamentalist controlled government against the SPLA rebel army.

Though the Khartoum government has pledged to cease its bombing of civilian targets, the situation remains precarious following the pullout of several major relief organizations after their refusal to sign an agreement in March that would have given the SPLA control over their activities.
