Songs as Prayer

Letter to the Editors

I don't read many reviews with the depth of perception in "Can You Hear My Song?" by Shefa Siegel (March 2013). When I listen to Leonard Cohen, I always get the feeling he is praying to his G-d or to, as Van Morrison put it, "his higher self." I think it must be so, as it accounts for his ability to rework themes reflective of his age and continuing pursuit of the ephemeral "truth." Unlike others (such as Dylan), he seems to continually evolve ... upwards.
