Tammy Stallcup has been teaching junior high and middle school choir for 34 years in Texas public schools, primarily in Odessa. She will start her 35th year at her current school in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD near Fort Worth.

She considers what she gets to do every day both a gift from God and a responsibility to love each of her students and their families well. She has the privilege of encouraging her students to see what amazing things they can accomplish when they “do it scared” and showing them how in their diversity, they can come together to create beautiful harmony.

She is married to Kent, also a teacher, and is mom to three grown children, Holly, Amanda, Schuyler, and wife, Lindi. She also has one awesome, toddler grandson, Juniper Sol, two dogs, three grand-dogs and grand-cat. In her spare time, she loves to sing and play handbells at her church and read.

Editor’s note: On Sunday, the Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocked mask mandates in two of the state’s biggest counties, upholding Gov. Gregg Abbott’s executive order prohibiting them. As school begins across the country, some districts in Texas, Florida, and elsewhere are defying mask mandate bans, in some cases risking school funding. Teachers and administrators are preparing for a year of unknowns as the Delta variant rages among the unvaccinated.
